Remember that tune? If not, here’s just a little of the lyrics:
You’ve got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don’t mess with Mister In-Between
Most of the time, we – that’s you and I – tend to remember the negative. We can do many things right and then we do one thing wrong and that’s it….we remember the wrong and never remember all the right things we’ve done. Why is that? Do we not believe that we are smart, confident individuals? What is it in our psyche that does not allow us to remember the positive things? Oh sure, we remember the good times and the bad times but we always remember “the things” that we did wrong.
Did you ever stop and think that the times we made mistakes were probably the greatest learning experiences we ever had? The clients we lost. The deals that were never made. All of those “mistakes” were learning experiences. I can tell you almost every single mistake I ever made and have tried desperately not to repeat them. Truthfully, sometimes I have repeated the same mistake and have literally cursed myself, mostly because: I just didn’t stop and think.
So let’s accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative…quite possibly we could be much happier!
Until next Monday…
