Leadership ~ what a great learning experience

m12.10I attended 2 Installations this month ~  one in North Florida and one in Mid Florida.  As I watched and participated in those installations, I thought about the word Leadership.  Leadership: What does leadership mean?  How does leadership happen?  Can someone learn to be a leader?

checkLeadership
has been described as “a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task”.

checkLeadership happens in the interactions and exchanges among people with shared work. Sometimes a single individual plays a major role in making it happen. Sometimes different people play different roles to bring it about.  There are no easy formulas.

checkWhile not everyone can learn to be a leader, it is not because leadership cannot be taught or learned. It can. It’s because some people do not have a desire to learn what it takes to be a leader.  I truly believe leadership can be learned over time.  Although I have met some natural leaders, maybe, just maybe, they too learned over time.

True leaders possess many qualities.  Leaders are not afraid to step in when all others leadershipare indecisive.  Leaders aren’t always right but have no fear making a mistake.  Leaders have learned to follow in order to lead.  Leaders are protective of those they are leading. Leaders are always inclusive in their decision making, but are willing to take the heat/criticism/responsibility for their actions.  Leaders speak more about others than themselves.  And last but certainly not least…It is not all about them!

I witnessed many leaders this month and am sure I will meet more.  What a great learning experience for me.

Let’s be good to each other…Let’s be REALTORS®

Until Next Monday…
